It’s still the honeymoon period, but one game into the 2021 season and the marriage between the Lincolnwood and Morrisonville volleyball teams seems to be a successful one thus far.
The Lancers, who are hosting the all-sports high school co-op between the two schools, dismantled Edinburg 25-6, 25-9 at the Woodshed in Raymond on Tuesday, Aug. 24, their first game of the season.
Players from both schools contributed to the cause, with Lincolnwood senior Sidney Glick leading the team in serving with 25 points and five aces, while Morrisonville junior Hailee Belsher led the team in kills (11) and blocks (4).
It was hardly a two-player show, though, as Lincolnwood received contributions up and down the lineup. Desi Pitchford added three points, nine kills and a block, while Tessa Funderburk led the team in assists with 15 and contributed a kill. Avery Pope also had four assists, while Sidney Glick chipped in two.
Madyson Bockewitz led the team in digs with six, while Haelee Damm added three digs as the Lancers limited Edinburg’s offensive opportunities. Bockewitz and Damm also had three points each as Lincolnwood moved to 1-0 on the young season.
Lincolnwood’s JV squad also came away with a win, beating the Wildcats 25-8, 25-17.
The Lancers will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. in Bunker Hill.
