New Library Location Ready To Open Today

The new Hillsboro Area Public Library will open at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, in its new location in downtown Hillsboro.

The new location that was formerly a bank features reading areas for children, teens and adults, two study rooms and a large conference room, a genealogy room and records, computers and laptop ports, free wi-fi with 5G fiber internet, ample parking and ADA accessibility.

The result of fundraising, a state grant, and a wider library district, the new location replaces the library building on School Street built on an $11,000 grant from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and opened to the public just over 116 years ago, on Oct. 5, 1905.

Presently, hours at the new location are set for 9:30 a.m.  to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  Expanded hours are planned.

A salute to the new library on opening day appears on page 12A of this edition.
