The number of new daily coronavirus cases in Montgomery County continues to drop in October, but the Montgomery County Health Department announced the second COVID death in the county on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
The death was the second this month and the 78th since the pandemic began.
Through the first ten days of October, Montgomery County is averaging 6.3 new positive tests per day, down substantially from the 15.0 daily average in September and roughly equal to the 6.0 new cases per day for the same period last year, Oct. 1-10, 2020.
As of Oct. 10, Montgomery County has recorded 4,019 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020; the county surpassed the 4,000 mark on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
The local positivity rate for Oct. 2-10 is 3.4 percent–down from September but still above the statewide positivity rate of 2.1 percent for Oct. 1-7, reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
