Nancy Sue DeBarr, 62, of Chatham, died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, in Springfield.

A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Ms. DeBarr was born in Litchfield to Jim and Helen DeBarr.

She graduated from Litchfield High School and Illinois Wesleyan University. During high school, she was an All-State musician. She loved music, particularly jazz. While a freshman majoring in psychology, she displaced more senior music majors as the first chair trumpet player with Wesleyan’s renowned jazz band.

Ms. DeBarr served her community in Montgomery County, Springfield and the state of Illinois by working with the elderly, individuals with intellectual and developmental challenges and as a disability adjudicator, respectively.

She was kind and generous with her time, finances and talents. If someone needed someone to listen, she was there. If someone was sick and needed transportation to chemotherapy treatments or social support, she was there. If someone needed a coat or groceries, she delivered.

Ms. DeBarr was funny, smart and the kind of person anyone would want for a best friend. She lived for her family.

She is survived by her sister, Kathy (Mark Franklin) DeBarr, and her favorite furry friend, Molly, who all were blessed by her presence and will miss her dearly.

Ms. DeBarr was preceded in death by her parents.

To honor her, the family suggests performing an act of kindness for another. To light a virtual candle or sign the online guestbook, visit www.plummerfuneralservices.com.
