Mt. Olive Man Charged In Litchfield Traffic Stop


Litchfield Police arrested a Mt. Olive man, charged with several felonies, as part of a traffic stop on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

An officer with the Litchfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop at 9:53 a.m. on a stolen motor vehicle in the 500 block of N Old Route 66 in Litchfield. The occupant of the vehicle, Larry D. Baker, 44, of Mt. Olive, was taken into custody for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Baker had been a suspect in several burglaries in the city of Litchfield and within Macoupin County. Officers with the city of Litchfield, detectives from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police patrol officers and inspectors from the South Central Illinois Drug Task Force arrived on scene and were able to further the investigation.

Several items that had been stolen during various burglaries were recovered from the stolen motor vehicle, as well as from various other locations during the course of the investigation.

Baker was charged by the Litchfield Police Department with two counts of burglary, three counts of forgery for the fraudulent use of a credit card at Litchfield businesses, possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon.

The Litchfield Police Department and Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office recovered more than $20,000 of stolen property during this ongoing investigation.

Baker was identified as a primary suspect in several burglaries occurring within Macoupin County and additional charges for those offenses and any additional offenses attached to this investigation are anticipated to be filed in Macoupin County.

The Litchfield Police Department and the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Illinois State Police, South Central Illinois Drug Task Force, Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office and the Macoupin County State’s Attorney’s office in this investigation.
