Motocross Series Keeps Wright Brothers Flying

The Wright brothers of Dayton, OH, are best known for flying the world’s first airplane. The Wright brothers of Hillsboro are also known for flying, but it’s around a motocross track, not the skies.

While the young riders have seen their time on their bikes hampered by COVID-19, Hudson Wright and younger brother Holden Wright have still made it into a few events, the latest being the Fly Racing Showdown Series race at Lincoln Trail Motorsports in Casey on Sept. 27.

Hudson Wright would finish 19th in the 65cc Junior (7-9) division, placing 18th in the first moto and 23rd in the second, with nearly 40 competitors in the race.

Holden Wright would finish 14th in the 50cc Pee Wee (4-8) class, running ninth in the first moto and 19th in the second. He would also finish 15th in the 50cc Junior (4-6) division, running 16th in the first moto and 13th in the second.

The boys come by their love of racing honestly as their father, Adam Wright, also competes. In Saturday’s race in Casey, Wright, who works for Fly Racing and Western Powersports, finished third in the 30+ A division, taking fourth in the fourth moto and second in the second moto.

The Wrights weren’t the only ones in Casey on Sept. 27. Trenton Kimbro of Taylor Springs finished 26th in the 85cc Open (9-15) division and 32nd in the 85cc Junior (9-11) division. Ryan Petroski of Irving ran 12th in the Open C division, placing 14th in both motos, and 15th in the 250cc C division, placing 20th and 11th in the two races.

Petroski is currently sixth in the Open C division overall points and is eighth in the 250 C standings.

Trenton Kimbro is ninth in the 85cc Junior (9-11) class, 18th in the 85cc Open (9-15) class and 42nd in the 65cc Senior (10-11) class, while Braxton Kimbro is 26th in the 50cc Shaft/Shifter Beginner (4-8) class.

Hudson Wright is 66th in the 50cc Senior (7-8) class (where he has ran just one race), 63rd in the 65cc Open (7-11) class (again just one race) and 28th in the 65cc Junior (7-9) division.

Holden Wright is 17th in the 50cc Junior (4-6) division, with two top tens in three races and is 24th in the 50cc Pee Wee (4-8) division, with a fifth place finish. He also raced in one race in the 50cc  Shaft/Shifter Beginner (4-8) class, finishing sixth, and is 42nd in the standings.

Adam Wright is first in the 30+ A division with 110 points after finishing fifth, first and third in three races. Litchfield’s Derek Birkenkamp is third in the same division with 105 points.

The tenth round of the Fly Racing Showdown Series MX Championship will be on Oct. 17, at Lincoln Trail Motorsports in Casey.
