Mike Dagon, 75, of Butler, died on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, at 12:47 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 7, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Jaffry, pastor of Ware’s Grove Lutheran Church in Butler, officiating. Burial will be held at Ware’s Grove Cemetery in rural Butler. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #299 of Raymond and the Department of Defense.

Mr. Dagon was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Hillsboro, to William M. and June E. (Hill) Dagon, Sr. He married Myra Jean Dammann on March 23, 1968, in Hillsboro, and she survives.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1964 and attended three years of college. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.

During his career, Mr. Dagon worked in sales and service, as well as the parts department, at Siever’s Equipment Co. Case IH Dealer in Carlinville.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #299, Civil War Round Table and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library. He served as a volunteer guide at Lincoln’s Tomb, was a sexton of Ware’s Grove Cemetery and a Dauphin Island Sea Lab docent.

Mr. Dagon enjoyed golf, the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Pirates, American Civil War and traveling.

During his lifetime, he resided in Raymond and Butler.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dagon is survived by his children, Col. Patrick (wife Emily) Dagon of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Lt. Col. Kevin (wife Thuy) Dagon of Vass, NC; four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ethan, Kara (husband Michael) and Hayley; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Adalyn and Lukas; sister, Mary Dagon of Belleville; and his dog, Haggis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kathy Dagon.
