Melvin Lee Fenton, 76, of Salem, MO, formerly of Litchfield, died on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, at 4:32 p.m. at his residence in Salem, MO.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with his nephew Gary Fenton officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Hart Cemetery in South Litchfield Township.
Mr. Fenton was born in Litchfield to the late William George “Buss” and Mary Opal (Hemken) Fenton. He married the former Nora Lynn Elam on Oct. 7, 1966, in Walshville, and she survives. He graduated from Litchfield Community High School with the class of 1966. He graduated from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, with an associates degree in forestry. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 199th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War.
He loved reading his Bible, listening to gospel music and hunting. He was a member of the VFW and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He worked at CPC in Litchfield, as the pastor at Faith Chapel Church in Greenville and was a concrete truck driver in Laramie, WY.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Fenton is survived by his children, Gordon (Jennifer) Fenton of Salem, MO, Lynn Fenton of Salem, MO, Amy (Brent) Brooks of Laramie, WY, Janelle (Brad) Morehouse of Missoula, MT, Joshua (Misty) Fenton of Lawton, OK and Marsha (Collin) Geninatti of Salem, MO; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers, Clarence (Doris) of Edgerton, WI and Marvin Fenton of Nokomis; sister, Velma Speed of Brook, IN; and special buddy, Fred Geninatti..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Romana Fenton; brothers, Harold “Frog” Fenton and the Rev. Elmer Fenton; and sisters, Irene Ryan and Nola Nadine Hancock.
