Martha V. Meiners, 83

Martha Virginia (Verhusen) Meiners, 83, of Nokomis, died on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Pana.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. An additional visitation will be conducted Wednesday, March 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Prumm officiating.

Mrs. Meiners was born April 6, 1939, in Nokomis, to Simon and Katherine (Johnson) Verhusen. She met John Meiners, the love of her life, when they were both 18 years old, and it was love at first sight for both of them. They married Nov. 7, 1958, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis. They enjoyed 64 years together, and he survives.

She graduated from high school and worked at the telephone office.

Mrs. Meiners was a stay-at-home mom, raising their five children. She was an excellent seamstress and loved quilting. She and her husband made beautiful rag rugs on a loom and traveled together to craft shows. She loved to hear her husband sing and would accompany him to country music shows where he performed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Katherine (Dennis) Jackson, Mike (Barb) Meiners and Jo (Leon) Brummet, all of Nokomis, Sonja Meiners of Littleton, CO, and Vickie (Joe) Landis of Buckeye, AZ; grandchildren, Christina White, Larry Jackson, Amy Jackson, Kyle Jackson, Michael Meiners Jr., Lankston Brummet, Jeston Brummet, Brakston Brummet, Braeston Brummet, John Landis, Keegan Landis and Rece Landis; great-grandchildren, Asher Meiners, Gideon Meiners, Orion Brummet and Aurora Brummet; siblings, Lawrence (Bev) Verhusen of Marco Island, FL, John (Karen) Verhusen of Mt. Zion and Patricia (Lester) Stevens of Hillsboro; and brother-in-law, Carl (Terri) Meiners of Toddville, IA.
