Mark Russell Schmidt, 60, of Springfield, formerly of Litchfield, died on Mon., Sept. 20, 2021.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. The Rev. Fred Kraemer will officiate. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.
He was born on March 3, 1961, in Litchfield, son of Earl August and Barbara Wiley (Russell) Schmidt.
He was a graduate of Litchfield High School with the class of 1979. He then went on to study at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and graduated with the class of 1983 with a degree in business finance. He worked as a financial analyst with the State of Illinois. Mr. Schmidt was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield in 1974.
He is survived by his parents, Earl and Barbara Schmidt of Litchfield; a son, Nathan A. Schmidt of Springfield; a brother, Todd (Sheila) Schmidt of Crawfordville, FL; two sisters, Sara (Terry) Lee of Phoenix, AZ and Holly (Rich) Hampton of Edwardsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Al and Evelyn Russell and August “Gus” and Alma Schmidt; and two cousins, Brad Brown and Laura Moore.
The family suggests memorials be designated to the Litchfield Veterans’ Memorial Garden Fund.
