Lodema A. (Grove) States, 70, of Hillsboro formerly of the Cisne area, died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at 6 p.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 17, at 11:30 a.m. in Cisne Cemetery. Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne is assisting the family.
Mrs. States was born March 19, 1950, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Pearlie and Agnes (Turner) Grove. She married Bill States on June 3, 1972, in Cisne, and he survives in Hillsboro.
She earned degrees at Olney Central College and Southern Illinois University. A retired teacher, her 34-year career was spent teaching home economics and elementary school, grades third and fifth, in the Hillsboro School District.
An avid quilter, she taught quilting to many in the local community through the Illinois Extension and served as an advisor for FHA.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Annette (Ryan) Vaughan of Hudson; son, Doug (Kristin) States of Geneseo; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Evelyn, Allison and Eric; and her brother, Aubrey Grove of Geneseo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
