Lloyd Thomas “Tom” Harmon, 70, of Mt. Olive, died on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive from 9 to 11 a.m. with Mass being held at 11 a.m. Immediately following Mass a luncheon will be held in the church hall. Becker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Harmon was born on Sept. 17, 1954. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School in 1972, and enlisted in the Navy where he served as an electronics technician 3rd class until 1976. While in the Navy, Mr. Harmon received a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service during clearance operations NIMBUS and NIMROD STAR, and Residual Force operations in the Suez Canal. Mr. Harmon started his career at Echlin as a mechanic in 1977, and then worked as a computer technician at Dynergy for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2019.

On April 1, 1978, Mr. Harmon married the love of his life, Karen M. Petroline, at Ascension Church in Mt. Olive, and they had two sons, Mark and Paul Harmon.

When he wasn’t working, Mr. Harmon  was very active in the community. He enjoyed volunteering with the Mt. Olive High School wrestling team, having been one of the first wrestlers in the school when the wrestling program began. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1984, holding various offices over the years including financial secretary and Grand Knight. He was a fourth degree member and a recipient of the Knight of the Year Award. Mr. Harmon was also actively involved in the church, acting as a lector and eucharistic minister for St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive.

Mr. Harmon enjoyed woodworking and the challenge of building and fixing anything, but the thing he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He delighted in telling the most ridiculous “dad” jokes that got more groans than laughs, but that only made it funnier to him. His kindness, warmth, and sense of humor endeared him to anyone he met.

Mr. Harmon is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Mark (Becky) Harmon and Paul Harmon; grandchildren, Landon, Vayla, Camille and Linus Harmon; brother, Art (Tammy) Harmon and sister, Mae (Ray) Kidwell; in-laws, Andrew (Linda) Petroline, Chris (Jim) Costello, Phillip (Dena) Petroline, Jerry (Melba) Petroline and Lori Petroline; and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Frances and Ebert Morgan; mother, Mary Bartok and father, Lloyd Harmon; in-laws, Phyllis and Charles Petroline; brothers-in-law, Robert, Charlie, and Danny Petroline; and nephew, Kevin Petroline.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Knights of Columbus or Memorial Mass.
