Litchfield Shoots Season Best At Vandalia

Posted

Not many teams are going to beat Vandalia this year, let alone at their home course, but the Litchfield boys golf team gave it a pretty good shot on Wednesday, Sept. 8, as they put up one of their best rounds of the season at the Vandalia Country Club.

The Vandals, now 10-0, took the top spot with a 143, getting a 33 from Chase Laack, a 34 from Conner McCall and a 35 from Dylan Halford, but Litchfield turned in a nine-hole season-best 161 as a team to take second. Christ Our Rock Lutheran (183) and Staunton (198) finished third and fourth in the match.

While the Vandals had three golfers in the 30s, Litchfield did their best to keep up, putting two in that same range. Tug Schwab was fourth overall individually with a 1-over-par 36, while Ian Otto tied Parker Boehne of Christ Our Rock with a 4-over 39.

The fall from the top two Panthers wouldn’t be steep as Litchfield got a 42 from Keagan Marten and a 44 from Brawly Jacobs to round out the scoring. Fifth man A.J. Odle was just a stroke behind Jacobs with a 45, with Zach Boston finishing with a 48.

While the varsity was in Vandalia, the JV Panthers got some work in at home. Ryan Baugher and Allen Schneider were both in the mid-40s with a 44 and a 46, while Tyler Thompson and Zach Leitschuh both shot 52s.

Dominic Ellinger (55), Jackson Painter (60) and Ethan Witt (64) also played a JV round as Litchfield continues to build the depth of its program.

The varsity will be back at home on Monday, Sept. 13, to host Carlinville and Southwestern, followed by a road trip to Staunton on Sept. 14, to face Staunton, Gillespie, Greenville and Southwestern at Timber Lakes. Litchfield then gets another shot at Vandalia, this time at the Litchfield Country Club.
