The Litchfield boys track team finished second to Gillespie in a warm-up meet for next week’s sectionals, picking up eight wins on the Miners’ home track.
The Panthers finished with 57 points for the meet, nine more than third place Carlinville and 15 fewer than Gillespie, who won the home meet.
Cameron Crow won three events, two in the jumps and one on the track. Crow ran a 52.38 to win the 400 and won the high jump and triple jump with marks of 1.88 meters and 12.20 meters respectively.
Camden Quarton would be a part of four Litchfield victories, two relays and two individual events. Quarton swept the 800 and 1600 with times of 2:11.22 and 4:47.38 and was part of the Panthers’ wins in the 4x400 and 4x800.
In the 4x400, Quarton, Keenan Powell, Brandon Malloy and Sam Horn ran a 3:57.82 to beat out Gillespie by almost 13 seconds.
In the 4x800, Litchfield took the top two spots, with Quarton, Horn, Malloy and Allen Schneider running a 9:33.9 and the team of Kevin Pollard, Alex DeLaCruz, Hunter Hancock and Crow running a 9:36.2. Crow ran the quickest leg, a 2:02, while Quarton ran the second quickest, a 2:07.
Litchfield’s other win came in the pole vault, where Will Carlile cleared 4.26 meters (14-feet). Carlile also competed in the shot put and finished fourth with a mark of 10.03 meters.
The Panthers will be back at Gillespie on June 11, when they compete in the IHSA Class 1A sectional.
