A Litchfield man has been arrested in an alleged shooting on Sunday afternoon, March 21.
The Litchfield Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of North Locust Street in Litchfield at 2:39 p.m. A 47-year-old man had been struck by multiple gunshots.
A Gillespie ambulance was passing through the area at the time of the incident and officers on scene flagged the ambulance, where EMS personnel provided assistance to the victim. He was later transported to a central Illinois hospital by ARCH helicopter.
Witnesses in the area told police that a male subject fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. A search warrant was issued for the residence and several pieces of evidence were located.
Upon completion of the initial investigation, an arrest warrant was sought and issued for Justin J. Adkins, 46, of Litchfield on charges of attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Adkins was located in Litchfield and was taken into custody at 12:51 p.m. on Monday, March 22. He is being held for prosecution at the Montgomery County Jail.
