Litchfield Picks Up Second Win

The Litchfield-Gillespie boys soccer team picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and edged closer to a .500 record in the conference in the process.

The Purple Panthers, who beat Staunton on Sept. 23 for their first win, have been playing some of their best soccer of the season and scored a penalty kick shootout win over Pana on Tuesday, after the two South Central Conference Panthers were knotted at 1-1 following regulation.

Drake Gasperson gave Litchfield the early lead with a first half goal, but Pana would take one back in the second half to tie the game. In the shootout, Litchfield beat the visiting Panthers by a 3-1 margin to improve to 2-3 in the SCC.

Following their final conference game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 6, against Vandalia, Litchfield will close out the regular season against East Alton-Wood River on Thursday, Oct. 7, at home.

Litchfield (2-12-1) will start the postseason on Oct. 16, against the Flaming Hearts of Effingham, who were 0-15 starting this week. The winner of that game moves on to play Civic Memorial on Oct. 20.
