Litchfield Breaks Ground For Dog Park

Posted

Work will soon begin on a new “Bark Park” operated by the Litchfield Park District that will be adjacent to Memorial Pool in Litchfield. In the coming weeks, work will begin on the dog park by  pouring concrete and running lines for water and electrical service. The target date for a grand opening is April 1, 2022.

Over $47,000 has been raised so far for the project, with $25,000 coming from grants and the rest raised locally by the Dog Park Committee. The committee has been selling merchandise, like doggie bandanas and toys, and holding other fundraisers. The dog calendar contest was a popular event. A casino night is being planned for later this winter to raise additional funds.

The park will feature a 150 by 70 foot “big dog” area and a separate 85 by 70 foot “small dog” area, dog water fountains, basic agility features, and waste stations. There will be lighting as well.

On hand for the Monday’s groundbreaking was Litchfield Park District director Steve Bryant, Chamber of Commerce member Mike Flemming, park board members Shane Grammer, and Renee Wynn, and Dog Park Committee members Katie Cross and Kati Fenton.
