Litchfield Boys Avenge Early Loss To Auburn

The Litchfield boys golf team avenged one of their few losses of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 7, beating Auburn by one stroke at Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville.

The Panthers had played the Trojans at Timber Lakes in Staunton on Aug. 20, and fell to the Sangamon County squad 160 to 167. On Tuesday though, it would be Litchfield’s turn to be on top as they defeated Auburn 174 to 175, with Taylorville taking third with a 208.

The Trojans had the top scorer with Luke Boesdorfer earning medalist honors, but Litchfield countered with the tandem of Zach Boston and Tug Schwab, who shot a 39 and a 40 to take the next two individual spots.

Keagan Marten and Ian Otto added in a 47 and 48 to sew up the win for the Panthers, who also got a 48 from A.J. Odle. Kelvin Dooley added a 55 as the Panthers’ sixth man, while Brawly Jacobs scored a 47 in a JV round.

The Panthers, who played Vandalia, Christ Our Rock Lutheran and Staunton on Wednesday at the Vandalia Country Club, will be tested on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11, at the Mattoon Invitational at the Mattoon Country Club.
