Lincolnwood Splits To End Season, But Future Bright

The Lincolnwood High School soccer team improved to 5-6 on Friday, April 16, with a 4-1 victory over the co-South Central Conference champions, the Gillespie-Litchfield co-op team.

The Lancers, who co-op with Nokomis, Morrisonville and Pawnee, got a pair of goals from Levi Weir and Wyatt Kistner in the win and yielded just one goal to the Miners, who played the game at co-op partner Litchfield.

“We put together a solid game tonight. This short season is tough because we are just beginning to hit our stride,” Coach Joe Webb said. “In a normal season, we’d be dangerous in the postseason.”

Still, the season has been a good opportunity for the Lancers to devolp some talent. Underclassmen, like Weir (a junior) and Kistner (a sophomore), have provided much of the scoring, including their lone goal in a 6-1 loss to a talented Riverton squad on April 14. Freshman Mason Stauder would get the goal in that game, with an assist by sophomore Elijah Aumann.

Weir and freshman Austin Thornton scored in Lincolnwood's 3-2 season ending loss to Williamsville, which was 2-2 before a Bullet goal in the final three minutes.

While they will miss seniors Benny Clavin, Ian Marvel, Gavin Lipe, Sam Terneus, Graham Gunn and Fillip Kates, the potential for a few big years to come looms for the Lancers.
