Lincolnwood Boys 8-0 To Start Season

The Lincolnwood-Morrisonville boys golf team survived some tough tests to start week two of the season as they improved to 8-0 on the year.

On Monday, Aug. 24, the Lancers edged Auburn at Shoal Creek by a single stroke as they defeated the Trojans 162 to 163. Carlinville and Mt. Olive also participated in the quad, shooting a 193 and a 201 respectively in Raymond.

Nate Brockmeyer paced the Lancers with a 37, just a stroke behind medalist Logan Kavish of Auburn. Brockmeyer parred seven of the nine holes and scored a birdie on the par-five fourth hole.

Just seven strokes would separate Lincolnwood’s next five golfers as their consistency gave them the slight edge over the Trojans. Will Jenkins had five pars in shooting a 41, while teammates Michael Jones and Devin Brown added a pair of 42s to finish out the scoring.

Michael Graham and Braxton Schmedeke would also play for the Lancers, shooting rounds of 47 and 48.

at Terry Park

Lincolnwood survived by their skin of their teeth again on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as they picked up another win by one stroke, this time over South County in a match that also included Mt. Olive and Northwestern at Terry Park Golf Course in Palmyra.

The Lancers carded a 166 on the day to beat the Vipers by one, despite a school and course record 31 by South County’s Dain Richie. While Richie earned medalist honors, the Lancers had the next four lowest scores to sew up the win.

Michael Jones would be the only other player in the 30s as the Lincolnwood senior shot a 2-over-par 37 at Terry Park. Jones had five pars and three bogeys on the day, but canceled one of the bogeys out with a birdie on the par-four eighth hole.

Again, just seven strokes would separate the other five Lincolnwood golfers, with Nate Brockmeyer, Braxton Schmedeke and Will Jenkins stair-stepping down with the three scoring rounds of 42, 43 and 44.

Devin Brown would be just behind them with a 46 for the Lancers, while Michael Graham added a 49 from the sixth slot.

Now 8-0, the varsity Lancers will have a few days off before their next match, which will be at the Litchfield Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 1, against the host Purple Panthers and Taylorville at 4 p.m.
