Lidy Shuts Down Panthers In Litchfield

Vandalia’s Morgan Lidy twirled five innings of two-hit ball to shutout Litchfield on Monday, May 3, as the Purple Panthers fell 14-0 on their home field to the Vandals.

Lidy yielded just two hits and didn’t walk anyone as just three Litchfield batters reached base in the game.

The first Litchfield hit came with two outs in the first on a single by Ashley Hickerson. Hickerson would be left there after Lidy ended the inning on her second of ten strikeouts in the contest.

Annika Rhodes would reach base for Litchfield on an error in the second inning, but again the opportunity came with two outs and Lidy set the next batter down on strikes.

After a 1-2-3 third, Emma Walch doubled to center field to give the Panthers a runner in scoring position. Again the trend continued and Walch was left stranded after another “K” by Lidy.

Lidy’s performance was coupled with a solid day at the plate for the Vandals, who had 11 hits in the win against Litchfield pitchers Lauren Monke and Emma Walch.

Both pitchers gave up seven runs, with Monke pitching the first three (plus five batters in the fourth) and Walch pitching the final two.

The Vandals would benefit from seven walks, four of which came in their seven-run fifth inning that set up a shortened game due to the 10-run rule.

After a couple days off, Litchfield will look to rebound in their final two games of the week, weather permitting. On May 6, the Panthers are scheduled to take on Greenville in Bond County, followed by another road game on May 7, in Jerseyville.
