LaVon E. Bayler, 91, of Shumway, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Beecher City United Methodist Church, located at 606 E. Poplar St. in Beecher City. Burial was be in Graceland Cemetery in Decatur.
Mr. Bayler was born Nov. 26, 1932, in Olney, the son of Cecil and Leona (Arnold) Bayler. He married Mary Lou Schneider on Aug. 21, 1953 in Worden. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2004. He later married Denise Morris.
Mr. Bayler served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He pastored churches in Herrin, Centralia, Litchfield, Wood River and finally at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur until his retirement. Mr. Bayler enjoyed boating and riding his motorcycle and was a member of Christian Motorcyclists Association.
Mr. Bayler is survived by his wife, Denise of Shumway; children, LaNell Bayler of Loami, Mark (Kathy) Bayler of Springfield and Angela Bayler of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Jennifer Whitcomb and Brad Whitcomb; and great-grandchildren, Spencer Thaxton and Hudson Whitcomb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Lou; and son, David Bayler.
