LaVerne Raymond Young, 86, of Litchfield, died on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 3:44 a.m. at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 26, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mr. Young was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Litchfield, to Ralph and Marie (Peger) Young. He married Juanita Marie Ferrari on May 1, 1954, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Litchfield, and she preceded him in death.
He worked for Bay Circle in California in 1959 and went on to work construction for several years for SJ Groves, Denton Construction and Freesland Construction as a member of Local Labor Union #84.
In 1982, Mr. Young and his wife established Young’s Roofing and this year, celebrated 40 years of business.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1634. He was a licensed farrier with a rodeo background, and loved horses and driving his teams. He enjoyed pulling Sacagawea gold dollars out of the ears of children and was known for wearing bib overalls.
Mr. Young is survived by two sons, Joseph A. (Amber) Young of Irving and Lamarr R. Young of Litchfield; two daughters, Paula K. (Tom) Melchert and Becky S. (Todd) Bergman, both of Litchfield; brother, James Young of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren, Patrick (Tina) Young, Shawnee (Isaiah) Tandy, Cheyenne (Levi) Rogers, Shane Green, Joshua Young, Jordan Young, Tommy (Danielle) Melchert, Jonathan (Rheanne) Melchert, Levi (Renee) Melchert, Nic Bergman and Emi (Brandon) Vaske; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl Young, Harold Young, LaMarr Young and Ralph Young; four sisters, Frieda Nail, Clara Urban, Mary Bukowatz and Eileen Young; and infant great-grandson, Desmond Demetrius Tandy.
