Larry William Elvers, 79, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at 7:18 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie. Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie is assisting the family.

Mr. Elvers was born Aug. 21, 1943, in Litchfield, to William Henry and Betty (Elam) Elvers. He married Ann Cavanaugh on June 27, 1964, at SS Simon and Jude Church in Gillespie, and she survives.

He graduated from Gillespie High School with the class of 1961. During his career, he served as an Illinois State Trooper for more than 25 years, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Elvers was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Illinois Troopers Association. He was a former little league baseball coach and St. Mary’s basketball coach. He never missed his grandchildren’s activities.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark (Brenda) Elvers of Springfield and Jeffrey (Tobey) Elvers of Hamel; grandchildren, Ryne, Cal, Will, Collin and Chloe; and stepmother, Thelma Elvers of Gillespie.

Mr. Elvers was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Walter and Mabel Elvers.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
