The Lincolnwood High School soccer team made the most of their opportunities on Friday, Sept. 24, and scored a 3-2 win over Riverton-Tri City at Terry Todt Field in Raymond.
The two teams were knotted at one after the first 40 minutes as Austin Thornton converted a pass from Elijah Aumann for the Lancers’ score. Lincolnwood took the first lead of the second half on another assist by Aumann, with Ian Keller being the beneficiary this time.
Thornton added an insurance goal off an assist from Keller, which turned out to be necessary as the Hawks slipped one into the Lincolnwood net before the final horn to make it a one-goal game. The Lincolnwood defense would hold on, though, and maintained the lead until the final horn.
Lincolnwood will have a busy week, starting with Athens on Monday, Sept. 27, on the Warriors’ home turf. After that, the Lancers play at home on Tuesday, Sept. 28, against Vandalia, and on Thursday, Sept. 30, for senior night against Greenville.
On Monday, Oct. 4, Lincolnwood plays at Carlinville in the Cavies’ Kicking For A Cure game, which will raise money for the Carlinville Relay For Life team and awareness for infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy.
