It was a solid start to the season for the Lincolnwood girls golf team, even if it was abbreviated due to lightning.
The Lady Lancers hit the fairways at the Moweaqua Golf Course on Aug. 12, for the Meridian Early Bird Invitational, facing off against seven other teams.
One of the four Lincolnwood players was able to get all 18 holes in before lightning forced the cancellation of the tournament, with most players having just one or two holes to play.
Jhia Walker of Morrisonville shot a 120 on the day, carding a 55 on the front nine and a 65 on the back half of the course. Walker also made it into the top five individually as she shot an 86 on the holes that all of the players completed.
While Walker was the only Lancer to get all 18 in, her teammates Marisa Webb and Shelby Hattenbach would have most likely been close to her final score had they been able to finish out. Webb shot a 114 for 17 holes, missing just the par-5 ninth hole, while Hattenbach had a 112 for 16 holes, with no score for number eight and number nine.
Jenna Matli also made her first appearance for the Lincolnwood golf team and shot a 141 for the day, missing holes number seven and eight.
The Lancers will hope for fairer weather today, Aug. 16, when they make their home debut at Shoal Creek Golf Course against Greenville, Mt. Olive, North Mac and South County at 4 p.m.
