Lancers Go Low To Top South County, Mt. Olive

The Lincolnwood High School boys golf team got off to a strong start on Monday, Aug. 17, as all seven Lancers shot 50 or better on their home course at Shoal Creek.

Taking on South County and Mt. Olive, the Lancers shot a 172 as a team to beat the Vipers by six and the Wildcats by 40.

Dain Richie of South County would take medalist honors with a 1-under-par 36, but Lincolnwood players would account for the next four lowest scores. Nate Brockmeyer would be the best of the Lancer bunch, shooting a 5-over 41 with five pars in his nine hole round.

Braxton Schmedeke would back Brockmeyer with a 43, picking up a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole, while Devin Brown and Michael Graham were a stroke behind their teammate with a pair of 44s.

Will Jenkins and Drake Germann would be Lincolnwood’s fifth and sixth men with a 48 and a 50, while the round of the day for the Lancers didn’t count. Michael Jones was the Lancers’ seventh man and shot a 3-over 39, a sign of good things to come for Coach Verne Pinkston’s squad.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, Lincolnwood will be back at home on Monday, Aug. 24, as they host Carlinville, North Mac and Williamsville at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Raymond.
