While much of Montgomery County was weathering the severe weather on Friday, Dec. 10, the Lincolnwood boys basketball team was in Moultrie County looking for their third win of the season.
As it turns out, the hosts from Okaw Valley were just as powerful as the storms as they defeated the Lancers 58-35.
The Timberwolves would come out on fire, scoring 21 points to the Lancers’ six. Okaw Valley was far from a one-man show as Hudson Ruppert, Cale Roley and Tyson Montgomery all scored six or more points to boost the Timberwolves.
After the rough start, Lincolnwood calmed down and held Okaw Valley to just six points in the second quarter. Braden Whalen poured in six points, but Lincolnwood only scored one more in the quarter and trailed 27-13 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Ruppert and Roley added to their score totals, combining for 15 of Okaw Valley’s 17 points. That would help the Timberwolves add eight more points to their lead, despite five points from Will Jenkins in the quarter.
Whalen, Jenkins and company tried to comeback in the fourth, but it wasn’t in the cards as Okaw Valley came away with the 23-point win.
Whalen finished with 14 points to lead Lincolnwood, while Will Jenkins had 11 points, including three threes. Trenton Watson (3), Brady Schmedeke (2), Donny Daugherty (2), Gabe Armentrout (2) and Jonah Elvidge (1) also scored for the Lancers.
Okaw Valley was led by the trio of Ruppert, Roley and Montgomery, who had 16, 16 and 15 respectively to account for 47 of the Timberwolves 58 points.
The Lancers will be back at home on Tuesday, Dec. 14, to host the Gillespie Miners.
