A second half goal gave the Lincolnwood High School soccer team their second win over North Mac this season and bumped the Lancers back over .500 for the year.
The Lancers, who co-op with Nokomis, Morrisonville and Pawnee for soccer, netted a 1-0 win over the Panthers on Aug. 28, at the Kickoff Classic on Route 66 thanks to a goal by sophomore Kennedy DeWerff.
The latest victory, on Sept. 13, was also courtesy of the Lancers’ youth movement as a freshman scored on an assist by a sophomore after a scoreless first half. Ian Keller notched his third goal in four games after taking a pass from Cade Johnson in the game at Terry Todt Field in Raymond.
While Keller and Johnson made the win possible, much credit also goes to the Lincolnwood defense, who held the Panthers to one shot, which sophomore keeper Gabe Armentrout saved.
The victory bumped Lincolnwood back over .500 for the season, with five wins in nine games for the Lancers.
Prior to the win over North Mac, it had been a tough stretch of the schedule for the Lincolnwood High School soccer team, but hopefully one that will pay off later in the season for the Lancers.
After eight days off, the Lancers got back at it on Friday, Sept. 10, with a home game against a talented Beardstown squad. The Tigers picked up three goals in the first half and left Montgomery County 40 minutes later with a 4-1 victory.
Elijah Aumann scored the lone goal for the Lancers, who moved to 4-2 with the loss, with Wyatt Kistner picking up an assist on the play. Gabe Armentrout would have eight saves in net for Lincolnwood.
The Lancers were back at home the next day as they hosted Pleasant Plains at Terry Todt Field. Again, Lincolnwood spotted the opponents a 3-0 halftime lead, with the Cardinals holding on to win 3-2.
Cade Johnson and Ian Keller both had goals for Lincolnwood, with Levi Weir adding an assist. Armentrout had two saves in net for the Lancers.
On Monday, Sept. 13, the Lancers hosted North Mac, who they had beaten 1-0 on Aug. 28, at the Kickoff Classic on Route 66.
Friday will be a rivalry game for the Lancers as they host MSM foe Springfield Lutheran, who co-ops with Calvary for soccer. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Terry Todt Field.
Lutheran previously defeated Lincolnwood 2-1 in the third place game at the Kickoff Classic on Route 66 on Sept. 1, in Carlinville. Ian Keller scored the Lincolnwood goal in that game, the first of his prep career.
