Lady Toppers Show Improvement

The Hillsboro girls golf team turned in a solid performance and took home a win in a three-team match at the Carlinville Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 1.

With Megan Jorn leading the way, Hillsboro shot a 215 to take second at the meet, edging Carrollton by two strokes. Carlinville would narrowly get the win in the match, shooting a 210 on the day.

Jorn would be the only player to break 50 at the Cavies’ home course, shooting a 13-over 49 to take medalist honors for the match. The junior golfer’s best stretch came on the sixth and seventh holes, where she had back-to-back pars on the par-5 sixth and the par-3 seventh.

While Jorn would be the standout on Thursday, the entire Hillsboro lineup played well and showed just how far they have come from the start of the season.

Alex Frailey and Anna Colwell backed Jorn with a 53 and a 54, while Gracie Brink added in a 59 for Hillsboro’s fourth scoring round. Sam Frailey wouldn’t be far behind with a 62, while Aurelie Granito turned in one of her better rounds of the season on a tougher course, shooting a 64.

The win over Carrollton was Hillsboro’s fourth of the year as they prepare for regionals on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Like the other three Montgomery County teams, Hillsboro will be at the Taylorville Regional at Lakeshore Golf Course on Wednesday, with the top two teams and top four individuals moving on to the Rochester Sectional at The Rail in Sherman on Thursday, Oct. 15.
