The Hillsboro girls golf team picked up their first win of the season on Monday, Aug. 24, posting a season best team score at their home course in the process.
The Lady Hiltoppers shot a 228 to beat Pana by 11 strokes and improve to 1-2 on the young season. The score was 16 strokes better than their round on Aug. 20, at the Hillsboro Country Club, and 27 strokes better than their score at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton on Aug. 18.
Meagan Jorn was Hillsboro’s top score for the third time in as many matches as she continues to creep closer to scores in the 40s. Jorn shot a 59 in her first match of the season and a 57 in her second, but cut five strokes off her score to shoot a career best 52 on Monday.
Jorn wasn’t the only one setting personal best though as Alex Frailey, Anna Colwell and Gracie Brink also all had season low scores in the win.
Frailey was tied for second in the match with a 57 as she, Jorn and Madison Clark of Pana made up the top three. Brink would join them in the 50s with a 59, while Colwell was a stroke back with a 60.
Sam Frailey and Aurelie Granito would also play for the Toppers, shooting rounds of 67 and 70 respectively.
Hillsboro will be on the road Saturday, Aug. 29, as they participate in the Rochester Rocket Invite at Lincoln Greens Golf Course in Springfield.
