Lady Panthers Solid At Piper Glen

The Litchfield girls golf team returns five of their top six from last year’s team and showed that they should be tough to compete against in their opener on Monday, Aug. 16, in Chatham.

The Purple Panthers were second in a triangular meet at Piper Glen on Monday, shooting a solid 215 on the tough Chatham course. Glenwood, the host school, took first with a 194, while Taylorville was third with a 239.

The tip of the spear for the Panthers is the 1-2 combo of Laura Boston and Carly Guinn, both of whom had solid outings in Chatham. Boston shot a 9-over-par 45 on the day to tie for second behind medalist Katie Bell of Glenwood, who shot a 43. Guinn would be just a stroke behind her teammate, carding a 46 to finish in the top five individually as well.

Litchfield’s other two scoring rounds came from Hailey Rentz and Olivia Fleming, who had rounds of 60 and 63 on the day. Charlotte Gardner matched Fleming’s 63 for the fifth score, while Lauren Monke was just a stroke behind her teammates with a 64, the best sixth score of any of the three teams.

Litchfield will be in Staunton on Friday, Aug. 20, for a triangular with Staunton and Gillespie at Timber Lakes, followed by the Marquette Blastoff Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton.
