The Litchfield and Hillsboro girls golf teams saw a lot of each other to end the week as they joined some fellow South Central Conference golfers at matches in Pana and Vandalia on Sept. 23 and 24.
The Purple Panthers earned the sweep in the matches, improving their record to 20-0 with a few standout performances.
In Thursday’s match at the Vandalia Country Club, Carly Guinn shot a career low 41 to share medalist honors with teammate Laura Boston.
Alyssa Loyd and Olivia Fleming would also set season lows with a 48 and a 50, while Hailey Rentz and Lauren Monke added scores of 49 and 50 to put all six players within 15 strokes of par.
Litchfield’s team score of 179 would be one off their lowest nine hole score of the season and was 19 strokes better than second place Roxana. Greenville would be third with a 216, while Hillsboro was fourth with a 218. Vandalia also played, using three players, one short of the threshold for a team score.
While they weren’t able to improve on their win total, Hillsboro’s round was three strokes off their best of the season, with three players shooting personal bests.
One of those three was senior Anna Colwell, who has continued to improve as the season has progressed. Colwell, who shot a 74 in her first match of the season, led Hillsboro with a 52.
Alex Frailey would continue her consistent play for the Toppers with a 54, while Gracie Brink matched her teammate with a personal best 54 as well.
Aurelie Granito, who went from a 70 on Wednesday to a 58 on Thursday, and Sam Frailey, who went from a 68 to a 62, rounded out the lineup.
At Oak Terrace
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, some tough pin placements at Oak Terrace Golf Course in Pana caused the scores to rise, but it was a good test going into the final weeks of the season for the Litchfield and Hillsboro golf teams.
The Lady Panthers would shoot a 193 to improve to 16-0 on the season, beating North Mac (who will join the SCC in 2022) by 33 strokes. Hillsboro would be third with a 241, while Pana was fourth with a 247.
Laura Boston continued her successful season with her eighth straight medalist performance of the year. Boston would shoot a 45 to beat out Jai Ireland of North Mac by one stroke.
The rest of the top five belonged to Litchfield, with Carly Guinn finishing third with a 47, Alyssa Loyd coming in fourth with a 50 and Olivia Fleming taking fifth with a 51.
For good measure, Hailey Rentz would add in a fifth score of a 53, good for sixth overall, while Lauren Monke added a 57, which tied for the eighth best score with Hillsboro’s Alex Frailey.
Frailey would lead Hillsboro, who picked up their third win of the season in the match. Anna Colwell would add a 58, which was a short-lived season best for the senior (she’d break that mark the next day at Vandalia).
Gracie Brink would also shoot a 58, while Sam Frailey and Aurelie Granito returned to the clubhouse with a 68 and a 70.
The two teams, along with the rest of the South Central Conference, will be at Indian Springs on Monday, Sept. 28, for the South Central Conference Tournament. The Panthers are the defending champions after earning their first SCC title last year with a 27-stroke victory over second place Carlinville.
