A slow start put the Lincolnwood girls basketball team in an early hole against Williamsville on Tuesday, Dec. 21, one that the Lady Lancers weren’t able to climb out of despite one of their most prolific scoring halves of the season.
The Lancers fell 57-30 to the Bullets in Williamsville, but scored 26 points in the second half, which is more than they scored in seven of their 10 games total.
The difference for the Bullets came in the opening two quarters, where they outscored Lincolnwood 16-2 and 9-2 for a 25-4 halftime lead. Tylie Barton and Maddie Roberts combined for 15 points for Williamsville, with Barton leading all scorers with nine.
Lincolnwood’s first half points all came from free throws as Haelee Damm hit two in the first quarter and Amanda Seelbach added two in the second.
The Lancers would finally end the slide in the third quarter, doing so with a barage of three-pointers from Damm and Taryn Millburg. Millburg would knock down three threes in the eight minutes after halftime, while Damm added two more treys. Coupled with a two from Avery Pope, Lincolnwood scored an impressive 17 points in the quarter, but Williamsville answered with 22 of their own and led 47-21 after three.
The Lancers wouldn’t get another three in game, but the scoring didn’t dry up.
They spread nine points between Seelbach, Millburg, Cora Stevens and Taylor Lush. The Bullets added one more to their lead and came away with a 57-30 victory, spoiling one of Lincolnwood’s highest point totals of the season.
Taryn Millburg would finish with a career-best 11 points, with her three threes bring her season total up to 11 triples and 48 total points. On the heels of a nine-point game against Greenfield-Northwestern, Haelee Damm finished with eight, followed by Amanda Seelbach and Cora Stevens with four each, Avery Pope with two and Taylor Lush with one.
The Lancers will be off until after Christmas now, with their next game on Monday, Dec. 27, at the Carlinville Holiday Tournament. Playing in the Red Pool, Lincolnwood starts off with top seeded South County at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, followed by a rematch with Williamsville at noon on Dec. 28 and a bout with Calhoun at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 29.
The tournament wraps up on Thursday, Dec. 30, with crossover games against the Green Pool, which consists of Nokomis, Greenfield-Northwestern, Gillespie and Carlinville.
