Lady Lancers End Season

Posted

The Lincolnwood-Morrisonville girls golf team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Class 1A Taylorville Regional at Lakeshore Golf Course.

With just two classes in girls golf, the Lady Lancers had to go up against some bigger schools like Sacred Heart-Griffin and Rochester, in addition to established smaller school powers like Williamsville and Auburn. Throw in the familiar faces of Litchfield, Carlinville and South County and Lincolnwood knew they would have their work cut out for them in Christian County.

Despite the uphill climb, the Lady Lancers put forth a good effort and finished eighth in the 13-team field, shooting a 445 on the day.

Sacred Heart-Griffin would earn the regional championship with a 333, while Auburn took the other sectional qualifying spot with a 367, sneaking past third place Williamsville by two strokes.

The Lancers would be led by Dorie Krager, who nearly broke 100 on the day. Krager shot a 49 on the back nine, then finished the day with a 54 on the front nine. Her 103 was good enough for 23rd, 17 strokes away from the final individual sectional qualifying spot.

Jordyn Gerlach would back Krager with a 109, shooting a 54 on the back nine and a 55 on the front nine, with a par on the par-5 sixth hole. Her round would be good enough for 39th on the day.

Just three strokes would separate the other four members of the Lincolnwood lineup, with Micah Gehlbach and Shelby Hattenbach contributing the other two scoring rounds. Gehlbach would shoot a 59 on the back nine, then cut a couple strokes off on the front half of the course with a 57 for a 116 overall. Hattenbach would follow a similar course, shooting a 60 on the back nine to start, then carding a 57 on the front nine, including a par on the par-3 eighth hole, for a 117 on the day. Gehlbach’s score would put her in a tie for 52nd, while Hattenbach would tie for 55th.

Jhia Walker and Marisa Webb would both shoot 119s in their first taste of the postseason. Both players shot 60 on the back half of the course, with Webb scoring a par on the 12th hole, then shot 59 on the front nine at Lakeshore to tie for 59th overall.

The tournament marked the end of the season for the Lady Lancers and the end of the career for Krager, Gerlach and Gehlbach, who have shown great improvement since they started their journeys on the team. Their contributions to the Lancer golf program have helped them personally, but have also put the program on firmer footing as well.
