The big kids got their shot earlier in the summer, but on Sunday, Aug. 9, it was the youngsters’ turn to hit the greens in memory of the late Camren Neisler.
The inaugural Camren’s On The Mini Greens tournament was held on the course bearing the Nokomis grad’s name at Shane Cole Park in Nokomis and drew more than 20 kiddos, fifth grade and younger.
Each child was given a “Camren Buddy” for the round, whose job it was to keep score and help with strategy on the course.
“It was a lot of fun to watch their excitement when their little did well,” Neisler’s mom Brandy Chausse said of the Camren Buddies.
Each golfer received a goodie bag, a T-shirt and lunch, with winners of each group taking home a black (Neisler’s go-to color) mini golf cooler.
Winners of the four groups were Colby Stewart, whose Camren Buddy was Kamden Ransdell; Leander Jones, whose Camren Buddy was Austin Akre; Tinley Brownback, whose Camren Buddy was Hailey Engelman; and Gabe Malveaux, whose Camren Buddy was Austin Akre.
The proceeds from the mini tournament, along with the $26,500 raised during the Camren’s On The Green tournament on July 3, will go toward Camren’s Causes. The group established in Neisler’s memory has supported the fundraising efforts for the Nokomis Memorial Pool, flags for the graves of veterans, food for the Nokomis Food Pantry and scholarships for Nokomis High School graduates.
