Kathryn Garnett Yellowley, 96, of Litchfield, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at 2:40 p.m. at Copper Creek Cottages Memory Care in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Willenborg, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. 

Burial and committal service with military honors will be held Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Mrs. Yellowley was born March 2, 1923, a daughter of Fred and Blanche (Masterson) Yuetten. She married First Lieutenant Jesse Perkins Yellowley, captain upon his discharge, on May 17, 1946, at the Army Chapel at Ft. Eustis, VA, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2000.

After graduating from high school, she graduated from Decatur-Macon Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1944. She enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Army Nurse Corps, Asiatic–Pacific Theatre. She held the rank of Second Lieutenant.

For several years, she worked at HSHS St. Francis Hospital, both in the old and new hospital. She was head nurse of the ICU Department.

Mrs. Yellowley was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Anne's Society, Kniery-Knagg Post 436 American Legion and VFW Post 3912. She was also a member of the Women's Memorial in Washington D.C., an Honor Flight participant and a member of Life Long Learning of Lincoln Land Community College.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing Bridge. Over the years, she and her husband traveled the United States and abroad before and after their retirement.

Mrs. Yellowley is survived by a son, James "Mike" (Beverly) Yellowley of Lowell, MI; two daughters, Patricia (Al) Martin of San Ramon, CA, and Rebecca (Rod) Bernhardt of Carlinville; five grandsons, Mike Martin, Matt (Autumn) Martin, Jared (Haley) Bernhardt, and Aaron and Jesse Bernhardt; and two great-grandchildren, Savanah and Connor Martin.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Yuetten; and a sister, Nerine Guy.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C.
