Joyce May (Bentley) Hemken, 92, of Hillsboro, died on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at 2:27 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mrs. Hemken was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Sorento, to Vivian Henry and Rose Maude (Grigg) Bentley. She married Dwight E. Hemken on April 18, 1953. They were married over 69 years before his passing on Sept. 25, 2022.
She was a mother and homemaker, and held many other jobs throughout the years. A member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, she served as a church pianist. She liked to do crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Hemken is survived by her children, the Rev. Jeff (Patty) Hemken of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy (Reg) Wood of Licking, MO; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathy Ann (Hemken) Blake; and siblings, Ruth (Bentley) Viola, Evelyn (Bentley) Turner, Doris (Bentley) Wall and Nancy (Bentley) McGee.
