Josephine Erma Poppenhouse, 104, of Hillsboro, died on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at 1:25 a.m.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Schwab of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be held at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend.

Mrs. Poppenhouse was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Hillsboro, to Herbert Max and Erma (Forehand) Titcomb. She married Victor Lewis Poppenhouse on July 23, 1938, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Parsonage in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking wedding cakes, quilting, keeping books for her husband at Vic’s T.V. and Radio, and helping on their farm across from WSMI. She was also employed at Litchfield High School in laundry.

Mrs. Poppenhouse was a memer of the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, where she participated in the JOY Class, Keenagers and singing in the choir. What she enjoyed most of all was being with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Russell) Hiller of Litchfield; sister, June Pruitt of Litchfield; seven grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Kim) Kalaher, Bryan Kalaher, Amy (Mike) Goodwin, David (Mieka) Kalaher, Mark (Teresa) Kalaher, Ellen (Brian) Cooke and Allen (Bonnie) Roberson; 15 great-grandchildren, Landon Sarver, Dylan Kalaher, Dawson Kalaher-Sarver, Kyle Roberson, Jason Todd, Maycen Wiseman, Laura Alexander, Jordan Richards, JoAnna Kalaher, Mark Kalaher, Victor Kalaher, Maggie Kalaher, Braelen Cooke, Zoie Craven and Triniti Craven; and five great-great-grandchildren, Carter Sarver, Harrison Sarver, Mila Wiseman, Emersyn Richards and Emma Wiseman.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Poppenhouse was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Carol Kalaher and Dolores Fanello; sisters, Pearl DePew, Maxine Pettijohn, Mary Tefteller Vath and Lois Daughtery; brothers, Albert Titcomb and Kenneth Titcomb; grandchildren, Tom Frazier and Randy Roberson; and great-granddaughter, Madison Kalaher.
