Joseph E. Funk, 83, of Mt. Olive, died on Monday, July 5, 2021, at 8:28 a.m. at his residence.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 15, beginning at 12 p.m. at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie is assisting the family.
Mr. Funk was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Litchfield, to Mike and Catherine (Semplowski) Funk. He married Carol Sanvi on June 17, 1983, in Hillsboro, and she survives.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was retired after having been an expediter for McDonnell Douglas. He was also a member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Funk is survived by his daughter, Jolene (Kyle) Hanner of Staunton; stepdaughters, Karen (companion Richard Mellenthin) O’Neill of Mt. Olive and Barb (David) Crispens of Litchfield; grandchildren, Michael Houston, Justin and Kaitlin O’Neill, Cassie Mayer, Jacob Mellenthin and Seth Crispens; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Amelia and Aedan Houston; and siblings, Helen Zimmerman, Sophia Southworth, Edna Nail, Katie Whitehouse and Mike Funk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Josephine Dankoski; brothers, Stanley, Walter, Louie, Frank and Charlie Funk; and sisters, Stephanie Stroth and Regina Nail.
