Meagan Jorn earned a share of the top spot for Hillsboro on Thursday, Aug. 20, as the Lady Hiltoppers played their first home match of the young season.
Jorn would match Pana’s Emily Blackwell for medalist honors on the day as both players shot 57s to tie for the top spot.
Alex Frailey would back Jorn with a 59 to give Hillsboro two of the top three scores, but Pana would have the next three individual spots and escaped Hillsboro with a three stroke win, 241 to 244.
Anna Colwell and Gracie Brink would have the other two scoring rounds for Hillsboro as they both shot 64s on the day. Sam Frailey (67) and Aurelie Granito (69) would round out the scoring for HHS.
Vandalia would also send three players to the match (one short of having enough to qualify for a team score) and were led by Ashtyn Ferguson’s 63.
The Lady Hiltoppers will be back at their home course at the Hillsboro Country Club to start next week, with a match against Pana and Staunton on Monday, Aug. 24, followed by a triangular with Litchfield and Roxana on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, Hillsboro will play in the Rochester Rocket Invitational at Lincoln Greens in Springfield. The tournament will have a different look as teams won’t play with players from other teams and will send scores in electronically to limit contact.
