Johnny Russ Summers, 74, of Coffeen, died at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Olive Hill Cemetery in Coffeen. Burial will be at Olive Hill Cemetery in Coffeen. Rev. Jeff Hemken, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro will officiate. Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Summers was born on July 22, 1947, in Vincennes, IN, to the late John and Marjorie (Wright) Summers. He married Mildred E. Traylor on June 21, 1975, in Hillsboro, she preceded him in death on May 23, 2012. Mr. Summers was a coal miner in Coffeen from 1964 to 1988 and then later retired from Crown III Mine in Macoupin County. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA).

Mr. Summers is survived by his son, David (wife, Jodi) Summers of Coffeen; one grandson, Brayden Summers; four step-grandchildren, Tyler Huber, Taylor Huber, Katelynn Huber and Ryan Marley; two great-grandchildren, Sterling Elizabeth Huber and Jesse Everett Huber; two sisters, Toni K. (husband, Steve) Barnes of Hillsboro and Vicki J. (husband, Jim) Petcher of Hillsboro; and one grand-dog, Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.
