Leon Earl ‘John’ Wall, 84, of Sorento, died on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by loving family.
A public visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at the First Baptist Church,located at 206 W. Taylor St. in Sorento. Funeral will follow the visitation at 12 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Zbinden officiating. A private burial will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Homes with the ceremonies.
Mr. Wall was born on May 10, 1940, in Sorento, the son of William Henry and Juanita May (Griffith) Wall. He was proud of the hard work he did as a steel worker, in Alton, as a young man, and later as a laborer out of Sorento labor hall.
Mr. Wall had a strong passion for collecting antiques and running his own businesses, as he was the owner and operator of the salvage yard in Sorento and the 40th and Plum location that sold Amish furniture and later, turned that location into an antique mall.
Mr. Wall was a man who had many words and loved to strike up conversations with anyone. He would give you his opinion whether you liked it or not. Mr. Wall was always willing to help anyone and everyone at any time. His children and grandchildren were his greatest gifts, and he loved them all with everything he had.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Loren ‘Buzz’ Wall and Shirley Heady Wright.
Mr. Wall is survived by his children, Alexander (Amanda) Wall of Sorento, Aaron (Brittany Hancock) Wall of Alton, Donald Poynter of Sorento, Lisa Patterson of Huntsville, AL, and Kimberly Addler of Staunton; grandchildren, Willow and Lily Wall of Sorento, Owen Wall of Alton, Britt ‘Ed’ (Sarah) Roberts of Bunker Hill, Torie Roberts (David) Garlik, Emily Poynter (Tory) Sutton of Pocahontas and Maggie Poynter of Sorento; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Lilly, Helen, Iris, Olivia, Ryder, Elijah and Jett; and many extended family and friends.
