John R. Gusick, 75, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, from 2 p.m. until the time of service at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro.  Memorial funeral mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Irving American Legion #425 following the funeral mass. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Gusick was born on July 6, 1946, in Chicago, to Raymond and Eva (Ottenstroer) Gusick. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War where he had received a Purple Heart medal.

Mr. Gusick was a graduate of Brother Rice High School in Chicago and Western Illinois University. He received his master’s degree in Human Development and Counseling from the University of Illinois Chicago. Mr. Gusick worked in clinical services as supervisor at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro. He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and a past member of the Taylor Springs VFW post #1306.

Mr. Gusick is survived by his children, John Gusick Jr. of Hillsboro, Laura Gusick of Springfield, Jeff (Megan) Gusick of Crystal Lake and Sara (Bryan) Burnham of Jamestown ND; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Gusick; and sister, Darlene Sparr.
