John Curtis VanGiesen II, 73, of Hillsboro, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. VanGiesen was born on Feb. 2, 1951, in Beardstown, to his parents John Curtis and Donna Lee (Reichert) VanGiesen. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served from 1969 to 1978, during the time of the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, Mr. VanGiesen worked as a machinist mate which led him to careers with both CIPS and Ameren.
Mr. VanGiesen married Linda Louise Veith on Jan. 3, 1970 in Mount Sterling, and she survives.
He was a member of the Litchfield VFW and the Irving American Legion, as well as the NRA.
In addition to his wife, Mr. VanGiesen is survived by his children, John VanGiesen III of Mount Sterling, Christina VanGiesen of Hillsboro and Donald (Melissa) VanGiesen of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Bonnie (Roger) Rupp and Vieve (John) Veith, both of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
