Jerry D. Sugg, 79, of Lake Saint Louis, MO, died on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, at DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, MO, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, located at 991 Main Street. Funeral services will begin at noon at the church. Burial will be at Mulberry Grove Cemetery, at a later date. Assalley-Young Funeral Home in Greenville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Sugg was born on Jan. 23, 1943, in Greenville, the son of Leonard Joseph and Sarah Lorraine (Sussenbach) Sugg, He married Barbara Ann Artessa, on Nov. 26, 1966, in Clinton, NY, and they were happily married for just shy of 56 years.

The Suggs lived 30 plus years in Mulberry Grove, ten years in Pierron, ten years in Highland and five years in Lake Saint Louis, MO.

Mr. Sugg graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1960 and continued his education at the Springfield Barber College. He owned and worked at Jerry’s Barber Shop in Mulberry Grove when he was drafted into the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he worked at the Mulberry Grove FS as a grain manager for several years and at a local clothing store. He also farmed and raised hogs, and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Mr. Sugg loved watching his children and grandchildren strive and grow. He loved Bingo, cards and old country music. Mr. Sugg had a great sense of humor and was considered the life of the party. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Pierron, Knights of Columbus in Highland and the Gilham Lodge in Mulberry Grove.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sugg is survived by his daughters, Lori (Clayton) Grissom of St. Louis, MO, and Carla (Stephen) Roeper of Lake St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Allison Grissom of Pittsburg, PA, Bridget (Enrique Figueroa) Grissom of Chicago, Matthew Roeper of O’Fallon, MO, Sara (Sawyer) Bricker of O’Fallon, MO, Brianna Roeper of Maryland Heights, MO, and EJ Rheinecker of Highland; great-grandson, Jasper Jerry L. Bricker, of O’Fallon, MO; and a sister, Brenda (Ronald) Tompkins, Vandalia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine (Sugg) Ridings; and a brother, Carl Sugg.
