Jean Bernice Finley, 92, of Ramsey,  died Saturday, August 28, 2021, surrounded by her family, at Heritage Manor in Pana.

Services will be held at 11 a.m,  Thursday, Sept. 2, at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Ramsey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m, Thursday, Sept. 2, two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born on March 8, 1929, in Carson Twp., Fayette County, the daughter of William E. and Eva Donna (Depew) Carrell. She married Elbert M. Finley on Nov. 29, 1947, in Vandalia, he died April 18, 1998.

Mrs. Finley lived her entire life in Ramsey. She was the first woman elected to the Fayette County Board of Supervisors and was chairperson for four of the 30 years she served; served on the CEFS Board of Directors from March 4, 1993, until July 2021; from 1995 to 2009 she was the CEFS 1st Vice Chairperson, then from 2010 to 2021 she was the Chairperson. She was an active member of the Fayette County Democrat Committee, Fayette County Democrat Committee Woman President for 20 plus years, served on the Ramsey Township Board of Trustees for 20 years, and served on the Soil and Water Committee for many years.

She will be remembered for her dedication to the citizens of Fayette County and her family. She was a member of the Ramsey Christian Church and also attended the Ramsey Union Christian Church.

She is survived by her sons Ronald Finley and James Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Gordon Finley and Diana of Ramsey, and Marshall Finley and Patti of Edgewood; daughter Cheryl Ballard and Murel of Ramsey; daughter in-law Rose Finley; grandchildren Cheri Gelsinger and John, Malissa Amerman and Phil, Barbara Lawson and Mike Carter, Peggy Finley and Christopher Finley and Kendra; great grandchildren Jordan Gelsinger, Jeffrey Gelsinger, Cheyenne Summers, Dustin Lawson and fiancée Justine Yates, Dalton Lawson, Emily Lawson, Hallie Finley and Dylan Shafer, Courtney Moore and Bobby, Tabitha Finley and Ryan Feezel,  Zach Finley and fiancée Danielle Hill, Gabriel Finley, Melody Finley and Thomas Finley; great-great grandchildren Bridget Moore, Liam Shafer, Aurora Feezel and Amelia Finley.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband;  son Elbert “Butch” Finley, Jr.; three brothers Neal, Keith and Gordon; and one sister Shirley, at infancy.

Memorials can be given to Fayette County Health Department Home Health, Vandalia, Union Christian Church and/or Ramsey Christian Church, both of Ramsey.
