James “Jim” L. Dumont, 91, of Maryville, died on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Northwestern McHenry Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 1, at the chapel. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at  Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Irwin Chapel funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Dumont was born on June 6, 1931, in Litchfield, a son of the late Joe and Jennie (Perrone) Dumont. He was a US Air Force veteran who proudly served his country. On Nov. 15, 1958, he married Bette L. Andrews, the love of his life. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2006.

Mr. Dumont retired as principal from Granite City High School after many years of dedicated service. He also owned and operated North Belt Laundry in Belleville. He was a hardworking family man who cherished every moment he spent with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed going dancing with his wife. He loved life and he loved to laugh but most of all he loved his family.

Mr. Dumont is survived by his son, Steven (Jennifer)Dumont of Spring Grove; sister, Frances (William) Augustine of Livingston; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Joshua) Jump, James  Dumont, Jace Dumont, Jillian Dumont, Jacob Dumont, Joshua Dumont and JadenDumont; great-grandchild, Georgiana Graflage; loving friend, Dot Schiller; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James C.Dumont.

Memorial donations may be given to the Jim Dumont Journalism Scholarship for Southeast Missouri students pursuing higher education in the journalism field. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be left online at www.irwinchapel.com.
