James J. Clelland, 70

James Jameson Clelland, III, 70, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Funeral services and military rites will be conducted at a later date. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Mr. Clelland was born on June 17, 1950, in Litchfield, to James Jameson Jr. and Ellen (Watts) Clelland. He married Peggy Schultz on July 11, 1984, in Litchfield. They had two children together and later divorced. He later found his partner in life, Cyndi Greenwood, and next month, they would have celebrated 12 years together.

He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1968. He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to further his education and become a teacher; however, before the completion of his studies, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. A proud veteran, he served during the Vietnam War, from 1970 to 1971, and received several accommodations for his time in service.

After Vietnam, Mr. Clelland attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He was then employed for many years at Worksaver in Litchfield.

He was a member of Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield. He enjoyed being outdoors, but especially liked to garden, cook and play cribbage.

Mr. Clelland is survived by his mother of Litchfield; partner in life of Litchfield; daughter, Katie (Ryan) Clelland of Kansas City, MO; son, Craig (Kayla) Clelland of Litchfield; grandchildren, Avery and Nora Clelland, Hazle and Cyan Burdell, Lucy and Mayala See, Alexis, Hayley and Ryder Zeller; sisters, Gail (Rick) Piggott of Long Grove and Linda Dyer of Litchfield; and brothers, David Clelland of Glen Carbon and Donald Clelland of Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Steve Clelland.
