James 'Greg' Reuther, 66

James Gregory “Greg” Reuther, 66, of Hillsboro, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held at Litchfield Family Funeral Service in Litchfield on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2 to 4 p.m. A private burial will follow on Monday.

Mr. Reuther was born to Jim and Shirley Reuther of Springfield on Oct. 13, 1955. He was a 1974 graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield.

He moved to Litchfield to continue the family business, and opened Reuther’s Illini Glass Co. and served the Hillsboro, Litchfield and surrounding communities for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the St. Louis Drag Boat Association and loved to be on the lake. He also liked to rebuild and restore classic vehicles and spent most of his free time working in his garage on various projects.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Reuther of Springfield; a sister, Barb Reuther and partner Lee of Springfield; and an uncle, Thomas Woodrome of Springfield. He also leaves behind four children, James “Tony” (wife Sara) Reuther of Divernon, Jennifer (husband Daniel) Reuther-Barrett of Virden, Danielle (husband Levi) Bailey of Nokomis, and Jon Reuther and partner Destiny Stuttle of Virden; grandchildren, Aubrey Reuther, Ryan Quinn, Lauren Reuther, Lane Bailey, Lynnia Barrett, Nolen Laubscher, Mason Longwell, and Beau Stuttle.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Walter Reuther, and a granddaughter, Rylee Grace Quinn.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Charcot Marie Tooth Association (CMTA).
